Johor targets RM20 mln revenue from International Islamic & Halal Festival

01/08/2022 04:46 PM

JOHOR BAHRU, Aug 1 (Bernama) -- The Johor state government has set a sales revenue target of RM20 million for the four-day Johor International Islamic and Halal Festival (FIJO) 2022, to be held from Sept 29-Oct 2, 2022 at the Johor Persada International Convention Centre.

State Youth, Sports, Entrepreneur Development, Cooperatives and Human Resource Committee chairman Mohd Hairi Mad Shah said the event will strengthen Johor’s capabilities as a player in the global halal industry.

“We managed to record sales revenue of RM7 million from FIJO 2019. This year's edition will be on a grander scale, with targeted visitors of 150,000 and sales revenue of RM20 million.

"FIJO 2022 will have a total of 300 exhibitor lots. So far, more than 70 per cent have been booked by local and foreign entrepreneurs," he told a press conference after officiating the FIJO 2022 pre-launch ceremony here, today.

He hoped the local halal industry players will leverage the current vibrant halal market environment and help the Johor government to nurture a bigger community of halal entrepreneurs.

“All these efforts will boost halal economic activities and drive the state to become the leading halal hub not only in the country but also in the region.

"This is because the global halal industry continues to grow with the world's population spending over US$1.2 trillion (US$1=RM4.45) on halal products in 2018; that figure is expected to increase to US$1.9 trillion this year," he said.

FIJO 2022 involves eight exhibitor clusters, namely information and telecommunications technology, government agencies, food technology, finance and e-commerce, industry and machinery, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and fashion, tourism, and education.

The festival brings together halal and Shariah-compliant entrepreneurs from Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, the United Kingdom, and several Middle Eastern countries.
