KOTA KINABALU, Dec 9 (Bernama) -- The Global Entrepreneur One Stop Centre (GLOPEC) is expanding internationally via an e-commerce platform, following the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with OMalaysia United Kingdom (UK) and HYT Cross Borders China today.

Yayasan Sabah director Datuk Seri Gulam Haidar Khan Bahadar said the collaboration will pave the way for made-in-Sabah products to be marketed internationally, especially in the UK and the European Union (EU).

“This collaboration is the result of the positive response to market tests carried out in the UK and China, which revealed a high interest in Sabah products.

“It is hoped that this effort will boost sales of Sabah products internationally," he said in a speech which was read out by Yayasan Sabah corporate secretary Hanafiah Diman at the MoU signing ceremony here today.

The MoU was signed by GLOPEC Sdn Bhd director Azmi Aziz, OMalaysia UK founder and chief executive officer Simon Suresh, and HYT Cross Borders China managing director Datuk Danny Tan.

GLOPEC is a strategic collaboration between the Yayasan Sabah Group via its wholly owned subsidiary, Kristal Handal Sdn Bhd, and the Bumiputera Agenda Steering Unit (Teraju) to manage and implement the development structure of Sabah SMEs, especially towards exploring the international market.

Fify-four entrepreneurs registered under GLOPEC, representing more than 60 types of products which are ready to be marketed in the UK, Germany, France, the Netherlands, China, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore and South Korea.

Meanwhile, Azmi thanked the entrepreneurs for helping GLOPEC to achieve its goal to help entrepreneurs and the local community expand its reach to the international markets.

“I am very happy to see GLOPEC and its international partners’ efforts and hard work getting good response and bearing fruits,” he said.

At the same time, Suresh said OMalaysia will be expanding its online campaign by offering Malaysian products to 100 stores in the UK in 2023, adding that GLOPEC is an important participant in the campaign.

Established in 2016, OMalaysia was formerly known as Halal Street UK, led by Suresh, a Malaysian living in the UK who had taken the initiative to set up the online marketplace platform for Malaysian vendors.

Meanwhile, Tan said HYT Cross Borders China was established in 2017 to help Malaysian traders expand into China.

"China is a huge market, as such, given the variety of goods offered by GLOPEC, I am sure HYT and GLOPEC will be able to make a presence in the Chinese market soon," he added.
