PERODUA SENDS AID TO PARTNER IN SRI LANKA

16/12/2022 08:42 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 16 (Bernama) -- Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua) has sent aid to the staff of its distributor in Sri Lanka, Unimo Enterprises Ltd, as the island nation struggles to recover from an ongoing financial crisis which has seen a freeze in imports since 2020.

In a statement, Perodua said the import ban has effectively halted the sale of its vehicles in Sri Lanka, which was previously the compact carmaker’s largest complete built-up (CBU) export market.

As of the end of 2019, its best-selling model in Sri Lanka was the Bezza 1.0L.

Perodua president and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Ahmad said the financial crisis has also affected the livelihood of its partners there and the company is thankful for being able to extend a helping hand.

Perodua gifted vouchers to 171 Unimo employees as a gesture of assistance during this difficult period.

“We chose shopping vouchers as this is the most effective way to assist Unimo staff to get daily essentials and hope that the situation there improves,” he said.

Unimo Enterprises Ltd has been Perodua’s distributor in Sri Lanka since 1995.
