KUALA LUMPUR, July 11 (Bernama) -- The share subscription agreement (SSA) process with Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) on the transition to Malaysia’s dual wholesale network (DWN) model is going smoothly, even though Telekom Malaysia Bhd has yet to finalise the agreement, said Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo.
“If there are any new developments or decisions made, we will hold a press conference and announce them," he said in response to questions about whether Telekom Malaysia has been given a deadline to finalise its SSA with the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MoF Inc.) and DNB.
Telekom Malaysia needs to finalise its SSA with MoF Inc. and DNB on or before Aug 21, 2024.
Previously, four mobile network operators have announced that their SSAs with DNB and MoF Inc. have been completed.
The parties, namely YTL Power International Bhd, CelcomDigi Bhd, Maxis Bhd and U Mobile Sdn Bhd signed a conditional SSA on Dec 1, 2023, to pave the way for the transition to the 5G DWN model.
Commenting further on the decision to develop a second 5G network in Malaysia, Gobind expressed hope that a decision could be reached soon.
"This is about who will set up the second 5G network and how it will be implemented, and only then we can discuss the question of time limits and so on," he added.
