JITRA, Dec 12 (Bernama) -- The Ex-Servicemen Affairs Corporation (PERHEBAT) is hoping to be given special consideration for a larger allocation in Budget 2023 which will be reviewed by the new Unity Government to enable the corporation to continue with its programmes and training for future retirees and veterans of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM).

PERHEBAT director general Zakariah Md Sam said the corporation’s expenditure is now under the purview of the Defence Ministry.

“So, I hope in Budget 2023, the government give special consideration to future retirees and army veterans by providing more allocations so that the existing programmes and training can be continued and intensified.

The programmes and training offered were meant to train and guide future retirees and army veterans after life in the army and pursue a second career as a member of the public," said Zakariah when asked about PERHEBAT’s hopes in Budget 2023,

He was met at a ceremony to hand over PERHEBAT certificates to 145 future retirees. The event was officiated by State Religion, Education and Human Resources Committee chairman Datuk Najmi Ahmad.

On Dec 5, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was quoted as saying that Budget 2023 will be reviewed and altered to take into consideration views from the Finance Ministry and the Unity Government Cabinet.

The Prime Minister also said he would make room for the Finance Ministry and the cabinet to improve the existing 2023 budget 2023.

Meanwhile, Najmi said the state government was committed to all initiatives planned to preserve the well-being of future retirees and veterans who have sacrificed so much to defend the country's sovereignty.

“I urge state government agencies and private companies to allocate a special quota for job opportunities to them because with all the expertise, skills and experience gained in the ATM, they are certainly capable of making a huge contribution in various industries.
