SUNGAI PETANI, April 22 (Bernama) -- Police arrested five suspects in various criminal cases, including the theft of 121 copies of daily newspapers, in an operation conducted on Wednesday and Thursday last week.

Kuala Muda district police chief, ACP Wan Azharuddin Wan Ismail, said that at 12.05 am on Thursday (April 18), police arrested a 35-year-old suspect, after closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera footage showed the man running away with copies of newspapers, placed in a shop in Taman Patani Jaya.

Speaking at a press conference at the Kuala Muda district police headquarters (IPD) here today, he said that the man was arrested at Pengkalan Lebai Man, near here, and the case was being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code.

In operations dubbed Op Pintu/Kesan, on Wednesday (April 17), he said that two men, aged 39 and 41, were arrested at a house around here, on suspicion of being involved in a break-in at the Kuala Muda District Information Office, on April 13.

“The 39-year-old man has 11 criminal records and two drug-related cases, while the 41-year-old man has nine criminal records and six drug-related cases. Both suspects have also tested positive for drugs, and the case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code,” he said.
