KUALA LUMPUR, July 15 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Terengganu has arrested a married couple suspected of abusing their positions within a state agency to secure procurement contracts valued at over RM200,000.

According to a source, the male suspect, aged around 30, was detained at his office around noon today, while his wife, also in her 30s, was arrested around 1 pm at their residence in Terengganu.

"Initial investigations suggest that the couple engaged in these activities from around 2022 to 2023. The male suspect, employed in a state agency, allegedly leveraged his position by recommending quotations from his wife's company to secure procurement contracts totaling approximately RM200,000," said the source.

The source added that the Terengganu MACC is also examining other procurement contracts secured by the couple's company from the relevant agency.

Meanwhile, Terengganu MACC director Hazrul Shazreen Abd Yazid confirmed the arrests and said the case is being investigated under Section 23(1) of the MACC Act 2009.

He did not rule out further arrests and stated that both suspects would be brought to the Kuala Terengganu Magistrate's Court tomorrow morning for remand proceedings.
