KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 9 (Bernama) -- The Kuala Lumpur Immigration Department raided an entertainment centre in Jalan Sultan Ismail here today and detained 27 foreign nationals -- nine women and 18 men, in a ‘super VIP’ karaoke room which charges a fee of RM200,000.

Its director, Wan Mohammed Saupee Wan Yusoff said his team conducted the raid through Op Gegar at about 2 am today and checked a total of 50 individuals, including customers and employees of the nightclub.

“We raided the entertainment centre based on complaints from the public about suspicious activities being carried out at the premises, and following an inspection detained 27 foreigners,” he told reporters after the completion of the raid early this morning.

A Bernama survey found that the ‘super VIP’ room is reserved for regular customers who are entertained by foreign women. There are also other karaoke rooms that are offered at an estimated price of RM10,000 to RM16,000.

It is also understood that the premises only offers membership to customers who have a balance of over RM100,000 in their respective bank accounts.

Wan Mohammed Saupee said all those arrested were aged between 20 and 43.

“The nine women detained were eight China nationals and one from Kazakhstan,” he said.

"The men comprised nine China nationals, Bangladesh (five), Pakistan (three) and one Cambodian.”

He also said that among the offences detected were the misuse of visit passes and not having valid travel documents. All those detained were taken to the Kuala Lumpur Immigration Office for further action in accordance with Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963.

"An Immigration form 29 which is a witness summons will also be issued to the owner of the premises to be asked to appear at the Kuala Lumpur Immigration Enforcement Division," he added.
