Legal Firm Clerk Charged With Cheating Man Over Lease Of Land Owned By Perak Govt Subsidiary

IPOH, Aug 29 (Bernama) -- A clerk with a legal firm pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate's Court here today to cheating a man over a lease of land owned by a subsidiary of the Perak government two years ago.

Gabriel Yoshua, 66, a person with disabilities (PwD), made the plea before Magistrate Siti Nora Sharif.

He was charged with cheating K. Suppan into handing over two cheques for RM110,417.25 and RM220,834.50, respectively,  for a lease of land owned by the Perak Agricultural Development Corporation, which the victim would not have paid if he had not been deceived.

The offence was allegedly committed at the office of a law firm in Greentown Square, Jalan Datuk Seri Ahmad Said, here at 10 am on April 14, 2022.

The charge, framed under Section 420 of the Penal Code, provides imprisonment for up to 10 years whipping, and a fine if found guilty.

The court allowed the accused bail of RM5,000 with one surety and set October 11 for mention.

The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Aqilah Syaza Ariffin, while the accused was represented by lawyer Nahtan Krishnan.
