Pahang KPDN Seizes Controlled Items Stored Illegally

KUANTAN, Sept 7 (Bernama) -- The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) seized various controlled items, including subsidised goods, believed to have been stored illegally and suspected to be for commercial purposes at a premises in Genting Highlands tonight.

Pahang KPDN director Jezlily Jamaluddin said 39 gas tanks, 272 kilogrammes (kg) of cooking oil packets, 168 kg of coarse sugar worth an estimated total of RM2,196.20 were seized during the operation, which was conducted at about 12.30 am, following public complaints about sale of gas tanks by foreigners.

“Further checks revealed that the company is owned by a local and not a foreigner as indicated in complaints. Besides the seizure of controlled items, related documents were also seized for investigation purposes,” she said in a statement today, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 20(1) of the Control of Supplies Act 1961. 

She also said that her office received 869 complaints from consumers as of yesterday, and 10 per cent were related to the Control of Supplies Act 1961, with two cases opened.

“Overall, more than 97 per cent of complained received have been fully investigated. The ministry thanks consumers for helping to be our eyes and ears in reporting suspicious business activities,” she added.
