Woman In Remand For Corruption Over State Award

MELAKA, Oct 10 (Bernama) -- A woman was ordered to be in remand for five days from today for allegedly soliciting and accepting bribes amounting to RM48,000 from a businessman to obtain a state award.

The remand order against the 42-year-old suspect was issued by Magistrate Nor Syaliati Mohd Sobri. 

The woman, who is a former journalist, was alleged to have solicited bribes from the businessman as an inducement to help him obtain a state award with the title “Datuk Seri” last year.

Meanwhile, Malacca MACC Director Adi Supian Shafie who was contacted by the media confirmed the arrest.

He said the woman was arrested yesterday after giving her statement at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office here.
