PORT KLANG, Oct 10 (Bernama) -- The implementation of standard operating procedure (SOP) reforms by the Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM) has resulted in a 15.43 per cent increase in revenue collection as of last September, said its director-general Datuk Anis Rizana Mohd Zainudin.

She said this achievement saw tax collection surpassed the target of RM42.42 billion, reaching RM48.96 billion, which resulted in a surplus of RM6.544 billion for the third quarter of this year.

According to Anis Rizana, the SOP reforms were implemented through the introduction of the Import Export Support Document System (SDSIE) at the Port Klang JKDM Import Export Branch in September last year.

“This system was developed to expedite the assessment process, increase revenue, and reduce leakage with its high-security features.

“It is also is designed to digitally store import-export support documents, allowing for easy access at any time for audit purposes,” she told a press conference after the launch of SDSIE here today.

Anis Rizana also said that SDSIE, which was one of the contributors to JKDM’s outstanding achievements this year, would be introduced at ports in Johor and Penang.

Last January, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim expressed confidence that the JKDM could achieve its revenue collection target of RM56 billion for this year.

Commenting on the performance of JKDM enforcement from January to September, Anis Rizana said that a total of 5,666 cases were recorded, resulting in the confiscation of goods with duties and taxes valued at RM1.31 billion.

“This amount represents an increase of 48.53 per cent compared to RM884 million for the same period in 2023,” she said.

Anis Rizana added that cigarettes were the commodity with the largest seizure value, totalling RM437 million, followed by vehicles, drugs, and liquor.
