SHAH ALAM, July 7 (Bernama) -- A housewife pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to a charge of improper use of network facilities by knowingly making and initiating the transmission of offensive comments against His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, via her Facebook.

Suhaila Abd Halim, 39, was charged with committing the offence via the Facebook application using the profile name Suhaila Halim with intent to annoy others at the Sungai Buloh Hospital, Petaling district, at 8.30 am on Jan 5, 2025.

The mother of six children was charged under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which provides a fine not exceeding RM50,000 or imprisonment for up to one year or both and may be fined a further RM1,000 for each day the offence continues after conviction.

Judge Norazlin Othman allowed the woman, who was unrepresented, bail of RM10,000 with one surety, and also ordered her to report to a nearby police station once a month and not to disturb prosecution witnesses.

The court then set Sept 17 for mention for the submission of documents and the appointment of a lawyer.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Fadhli Ab Wahab and Prosecuting Officer Mohamad Azmir Mohd Razali, from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), appeared for the prosecution.
