KOTA BHARU, Jan 26 (Bernama) -- Another 12 illegal jetties along the banks of Sungai Golok near here yesterday and today, bringing the total number destroyed so far to 37, Kelantan Police Chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said.
The illegal jetties demolished include those at Syed Agil, Tok Awang Tinggi, Stor Kayu Nasir, Hajjah, Abe Yie and Haji Ghani, and were part of 96 illegal jetties identified along Sungai Golok near the Malaysia-Thailand border, he added.
“The demolition of these jetties is part of the ongoing efforts by the authorities in this state to strengthen border security control and curb cross-border criminal activities,” he told Bernama today, adding that the identification of jetties began in mid-2025, while demolision work was carried out in stages.
He also revealed that 223 illegal jetties along the border from Tumpat to Jeli were identified, with 216 built on government land while the remaining seven were located on privately owned land.
“We will proceed with the remaining demolitions once funding is received from the Federal Government, and it is expected that all jetties will be demolished by March,” he added.
