KUCHING, April 27 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Technology Development Corporation Sdn Bhd (MTDC) together with Sarawak Skills has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen knowledge as well as experience in the Fourth Industrial Revolution or Industry 4.0 (IR 4.0) in Sarawak.

The exchange of the MoU between the MTDC and Sarawak Skills was witnessed by the state Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn and MTDC chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Norhalim Yunus.

For the exchange, the six ecosystem companies under MTDC Centre of 9 Pillars (Co9P) are 3D Gen Sdn Bhd, which was represented by director Umar Ikramullah Ahmad; Techcapital Resources Sdn Bhd represented by CEO Eugene Ng Keng Leong; Move Robotic Sdn Bhd represented by CEO Mohd Hazeli Rasul; Innoveam Sdn Bhd represented by managing director Muhammad Zamir Abd Rashid; Akar Indah Engineering Sdn Bhd represented by CEO Rohana Rahmat; and Ideasparq Robotics Sdn Bhd represented by CEO Asyraf Abdul Rahman; while Sarawak Skills was represented by its executive director Hallman Sabri.

Speaking during the MoU ceremony, Sagah said the MoU is aligned with the Sarawak government's ongoing initiatives and strategies under the Sarawak Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030) to develop a technology-driven economy that emphasises environmental sustainability.

“I am confident that the strategic arrangement between Sarawak Skills and the six companies under MTDC’s Centre of 9 Pillars will pave the way for a host of fresh strategies to facilitate the adoption of digital transformation initiatives by the industries in Sarawak,” he said.

Meanwhile, Norhalim said through the MoU, the six companies from the IR 4.0 as well as Sarawak Skills will be able to provide training programmes that are appropriate to the relevant skills according to the current situation.

"The good thing is that students involved in this training programme will work together with industry players who have already developed their own products, besides looking at these industry players as their inspirations or icons because the company is also supported by young people.

"As a result, we will have students who possess relevant expertise in the current situation, and there is a possibility that these students will become entrepreneurs and all these collaborations will involve the development of products and services to be used for small and medium industries," he added.
