IPOH, Nov 27 (Bernama) -- The Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) is set to offer rebates to industry players under the rebranding of the Sustainability Achieved via Energy Efficiency (SAVE) Programme.
SEDA chief executive officer Datuk Hamzah Hussin said Budget 2025, presented by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, allocated up to RM70 million in e-Rebates to encourage both consumers and industries to invest in energy-efficient electrical appliances.
He said while the initiative was initially limited to household users, the government has now extended the rebate to industrial players.
“This will include the purchase of energy-efficient chillers, which typically consume large amounts of electricity and can be expensive.
“We want to encourage industries to replace old units with more energy-efficient models, which can help reduce their energy consumption,” he told Bernama after attending the "Coffee Series: How ESG Can Reshape The Industries In Perak" programme, organised by the Perak State Development Corporation (PKNPk).
Hamzah said that a total of 292,781 rebate units have been enjoyed by consumers nationwide through the SAVE 4.0 Programme, with e-rebates of up to RM400 offered for the purchase of four or five-star energy-efficient refrigerators and air conditioners at registered stores or e-commerce platforms.
He said the programme was originally set to end in December 2024, but by August 2024, more than 245,000 rebate units out of the 250,000 allocated had already been redeemed, prompting the government to allocate an additional RM10 million.
“Consumers have redeemed 149,952 units for air conditioners, while over 142,829 units for refrigerators were redeemed under the SAVE 4.0 Programme this year. The highest redemption was recorded in Kedah, with 43,187 units, followed by Johor (39,909 units) and Selangor (38,497 units).
“This programme is estimated to save up to 200.35 gigawatt hours annually, equivalent to RM79 million per year, and reduce up to 128,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually,” he said.
He added that the SAVE 4.0 Programme involved a redeemed amount of RM58.5 million out of the total RM60 million allocated by the government.
