BERNAMA SWEEP FOUR AWARDS AT KENYALANG JOURNALISM AWARDS NIGHT

KUCHING, Dec 14 (Bernama) -- Photographer Ahmad Rushdan Abdul Manan, 54, from the National News Agency of Malaysia (BERNAMA) was crowned as the grand winner in the Photography category at the Kenyalang Journalism Awards held at a hotel here tonight.

Rushdan took home a cash prize of RM3,000 along with a trophy and certificate, for his work titled 'A journey to mourn... Rest in peace, Joanna', which he had captured while covering the funeral of Laskar Class I, Joanna Felicia anak Rohna in Kampung Engkeroh, Serian on April 25.

Kuching BERNAMA Bureau reporter Rozlin Rusharmeen Rosmin, 28, was also crowned as the main winner in the Business and Economics Writing category through an article titled 'Micheal's Innovation Improves the Work of Splitting Cocoa Fruits by Fourfold'.

Rozlin also won second place in the Sports Report Writing category and third place in the News Report Writing category through his articles titled 'Dulu Kerja di Pasar Raya, kini kejar pingat demi Malaysia'; 'Jamil Intai Badang di PARA SUKMA' and 'Wira Tak Didendang: The Determination of Two Friends to Serve as Volunteers'.

Through the three victories, Rozlin took home a total cash prize of RM6,000 along with a trophy and certificate.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Pemier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg in his speech said the Sarawak government will introduce a month-long journalism programme at the University of Cambridge for selected state media practitioners.

He said the programme would be fully sponsored by the state government by sending two media practitioners every year.

"So you can mix around with international people and deliberate what is happening to the world according to global standards, not just Sarawak.

"Not only focused on the subject of journalism but the programme covers aspects of economy and social to enhance the quality of journalism," he said.
