Unity Ministry To Introduce Nation-State Concept Roadmap Next Year

01/11/2025 05:54 PM

KANGAR, Nov 1 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of National Unity will introduce a new roadmap for building a nation-state next year, in line with the mandate outlined under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP).

Its minister, Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang said the main focus is on efforts to build a sovereign, dignified, and resilient nation to safeguard the country’s harmony, peace and stability.

“In this regard, national unity, anchored on the Federal Constitution and the Rukun Negara, will continue to serve as the foundation for strengthening national identity.

“In the Malaysian context, the concept of nation-state should not be narrowly interpreted as ‘one race, one culture’. Instead, the Malaysian nation is formed by people of diverse ethnicities, religions, cultures and languages, united under one shared national identity.

“This is the identity that forms the core of the nation’s unity, well-being and harmony,” he said at the opening of Fiesta Uniti @ Muzium Kota Kayang and the Rumah Hijau, which is the birthplace of the Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, at the Kota Kayang Museum today.

The event was officiated by His Royal Highness Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin, accompanied by the Raja Perempuan of Perlis Tuanku Tengku Fauziah Almarhum Tengku Abdul Rashid.

At the same time, Aaron said museums are among the key platforms in building a nation-state. As such, they should no longer be viewed merely as repositories of artefacts or historical documents but must serve as dynamic and relevant national educational institutions for the community.

“In this context, museums must also emerge as platforms for intergenerational and intercultural dialogue, bringing together the diverse experiences of Malaysians under one national identity.

“This role is crucial to ensure that history is not only remembered but also appreciated and used as guidance in building a more united and progressive future,” he also said.

He added that the continuous efforts to empower museums as institutions of knowledge, heritage, and unity would not only preserve the nation’s history but also nurture patriotism and national pride among all Malaysians.
