MELAKA, May 24 (Bernama) -- The Melaka Department of Veterinary Services (DVS), as of May 22, has issued 887 Permit Sembelihan Luar (PSL) for livestock slaughter outside approved abattoirs in conjunction with Aidiladha this year.
State Rural Development, Agriculture and Food Security Committee deputy chairman Low Chee Leong said the permits involved 2,834 livestock animals, comprising 2,623 cattle or buffaloes and 211 goats or sheep.
He said the number of PSLs issued is expected to increase as the application period remains open until tomorrow (May 25).
“Applications for the PSL opened on May 11 and will remain open until tomorrow. Applications can be made at the nearest district or area veterinary services office.
“However, to obtain a PSL, applicants must first secure a Veterinary Health Certificate (SKV) for the livestock intended for slaughter,” he told Bernama today.
Low said slaughtering for sale purposes is permitted from today (May 24) until Tuesday (May 26), while slaughtering for sacrificial rites is allowed from May 27 to May 30, 2026.
He said the PSL is issued to allow livestock slaughter activities in conjunction with Aidiladha to be carried out outside government and licensed private abattoirs.
He added that the permits are also intended to ensure that outside slaughter activities can be monitored and conducted in accordance with stipulated requirements, including veterinary health, public health and food safety aspects.
