COVID-19: Indonesia records 1,687 new cases

JAKARTA, Aug 10  -- Indonesia has recorded a surge of 1,687 positive COVID-19 cases in a 24-hour period, raising the cumulative tally to 127,083 cases, the government said today.

According to the official website on COVID-19, www.covid19.go.id, 84,139 patients were still under surveillance for COVID-19.

In the 24-hour period from noon yesterday, 42 fatalities were reported, raising the death toll in the republic to 5,765.

Jakarta province has the highest number of positive cases at 26,162, followed by East Jawa at 25,626 and the balance in 32 other provinces.

East Jawa province has recorded the most deaths at 1,894, followed by Jakarta (932), Central Jawa (728), South Sulawesi (335) and other regions.
