BANGKOK, May 14 -- Thailand reported 2,256 new COVID-19 cases and 30 fatalities including a 15-year-old teenager, bringing the total infections in the kingdom to 96,050 and 548 deaths, to date.
Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) spokesman Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin said the new fatalities involved 16 males and 14 females aged between 15 and 85 years old.
Of the 2,256 new COVID-19 cases, he said 2,251 were local transmission including 183 inmates and five imported cases reported of which two being Thais returning from Malaysia.
“To date, a total 33,186 patients remain hospitalized including 1,203 in serious condition and 408 on ventilators,” he said.
Meanwhile, Taweesin said CCSA to discuss the easing of restrictions in the kingdom and new guidelines is expected to be released tomorrow.
“The proposed relaxation including allow dine-in in maximum and strict controlled areas - Bangkok and five other provinces with 25 per cent capacity and ban alcohol sales in restaurant,” he said.
Meanwhile, Thailand’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the emergency use of COVID-19 vaccine developed by Moderna Inc.
FDA secretary-general Dr Paisarn Dunkum said the vaccine registration will be valid for a year from May 13.
The vaccine is the fourth COVID-19 vaccine approved in Thailand. The other three vaccines are AstraZeneca, Sinovac and Johnson & Johnson.
