Special post-flood JTDL Programme in Johor to continue - FAMA

19/03/2023 10:33 AM

MELAKA, March 19 (Bernama) -- The Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) will continue organising the Special Post-Flood Direct Sales From Farms (JTDL) programme in Johor, involving 35 locations around the state.

FAMA acting director-general Abdul Rashid Bahri said the programme organised in collaboration with the Johor government and the state’s local authorities is one of FAMA’s proactive measures in ensuring the supply of raw materials, especially vegetables, is sufficient and sold at reasonable prices.

The supply of the goods was obtained from Pahang, Perak, Negeri Sembilan and Selangor through FAMA retail outlets.

“This programme started last month during the first flood season this year and is now entering the second season. We will continue in major areas such as Muar, Segamat and Kota Tinggi and will go to Batu Pahat afterwards.

“This sales programme is held in an area after the flood victims have returned home so that they can get supplies of raw materials, vegetables, fruits or other grocery items at a reasonable price,” he told reporters here late last night.

He was met after officiating at the closing ceremony of the 2023 Melaka FAMA Agro MADANI Programme, with state FAMA director Hairudin Yunos also present.

Elaborating, Abdul Rashid said the special JTDL programme had been held 20 times since February and received a very encouraging response from the public.

Meanwhile, Hairudin said the three-day 2023 Melaka FAMA Agro MADANI Programme from Thursday recorded over RM300,000 in sales, exceeding its initial target of RM280,000.

He said 50 agropreneurs from the state participated in the programme, which offered discounts between five and 20 per cent, adding that it successfully attracted around 200,000 visitors.

“This programme received cooperation from the state government, which also made some contributions aside from allocation from FAMA to sell goods at reasonable prices.

“It also aimed to promote the products of local entrepreneurs to all visitors and tourists,” he said.

Hairudin further said that the Melaka FAMA Agro MADANI Programme was inspired by the concept of willingness to accept change, and is a milestone for FAMA, which became the first agency under the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry to respond to the challenge of the Unity Government to promote the Malaysia MADANI concept.
