Bursa Malaysia Stays In Red At Mid-Afternooon, CI Down 0.95 Pct

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 11 (Bernama) -- Kuala Lumpur shares continued their downtrend at mid-afternoon on selling pressure across the board, taking the cue from global stock markets.

At 3 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) dropped 15.77 points, or 0.95 per cent, to 1,644.58 from yesterday’s close of 1,660.35.

The benchmark index opened 6.78 points weaker at 1,653.57.

Across the broader market, decliners surpassed advancers 808 to 214, with 401 counters unchanged, 1,043 untraded and six suspended.

Turnover amounted to 2.01 billion units valued at RM1.84 billion.

Among the heavyweights, Maybank gained eight sen to RM10.72, but Public Bank fell nine sen to RM4.72, CIMB was down 14 sen to RM8.35, Tenaga Nasional reduced six sen to RM14.60, and IHH Healthcare trimmed two sen to RM6.84. 

As for active counters, Globetronics added two sen to 56 sen, Velesto Energy was half-a-sen easier at 18.5 sen, 99 Speed Mart was flat at RM1.89, MYEG declined one sen to 90.5 sen, and Tanco improved one sen to RM1.13.

On the index board, the FBM Emas Index dipped 116.72 points to 12,183.12, the FBM Emas Shariah Index erased 78.87 points to 11,929.34, and the FBMT 100 Index gave up 111.75 points to 11,908.56. 

The FBM 70 Index declined 149.368 points to 16,929.64 while the FBM ACE Index lost 68.26 points to 4,970.70.

By sector, the Financial Services Index slipped 231.86 points to 19,699.27, the Industrial Products and Services Index eased 0.66 of-a-point to 171.33, the Energy Index reduced 26.83 points to 832.78, and the Plantation Index fell 58.41 points to 7,170.41.
