Bursa Malaysia Maintains Uptrend At Mid-morning, Glove Counters Among Top Gainers

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 17 (Bernama) -- Trading on Bursa Malaysia continued to build up its momentum at mid-morning with glove counters dominating the gainers’ list.  

At 11.02 am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) jumped 10.21 points to 1,662.36 from last Friday’s close of 1,652.15. 

The benchmark index opened 2.16 points firmer at 1,654.31. 

On the broader market, gainers outnumbered losers 421 to 367, with 380 counters unchanged, 1,337 untraded and seven suspended.

Turnover totalled 1.35 billion units valued at RM1.10 billion.

Glove counters rallied in the early trade following the recent announcement by the United States trade representative on substantial increases in tariffs imposed on Chinese imports, including a phased tariff structure for medical face masks and surgical gloves.

Among the top gainers, Hartalega surged 72 sen to RM3.14, Kossan jumped 36 sen to RM2.19, Top Glove advanced 18.5 sen to RM20.22 and Supermax increased 13 sen to RM16.46. 

As for the heavyweights, CIMB strengthened 13 sen to RM8.29, TNB put on 10 sen to RM14.88, IHH Healthcare strengthened 39 sen to RM7.17 and Hong Leong Bank garnered 26 sen to RM21.46, while Maybank was flat at RM10.64 and Public Bank eased two sen to RM4.68.  

Of the active counters, Sarawak Consolidated edged up half-a-sen to 25 sen, HLT Global and MYEG both gained one sen to 15 sen and 91 sen, respectively, AHB Holdings was flat at 4.5 sen and Genting Malaysia slipped two sen to RM2.37.   

On the index board, the FBM Emas Index climbed 94.25 points to 12,396.56, the FBM Emas Shariah Index soared 145.09 points to 12,260.90, and the FBMT 100 Index appreciated 99.54 points to 12,115.84. 

The FBM 70 Index surged 238.07 points to 17,519.95, while the FBM ACE Index eased 7.71 points to 5,076.53. 

By sector, the Financial Services Index improved by 42.64 points to 19,593.74, the Industrial Products and Services Index edged up 1.09 points to 176.24 and the Plantation Index added 3.37 points to 7,184.10, while the Energy Index declined 0.43 of-a-point to 862.38.
