Bursa Malaysia Reclassifies Investor Segments To Clarify Trading Participation

24/02/2026 02:02 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 24 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia Bhd is enhancing investor segment data to provide greater granularity on trading participation across the market.

In a statement here today, the exchange said the enhancements would involve distinguishing nominee accounts held by institutional and retail investors, a move which provides a clearer representation of each investor segment’s trading participation.

Additionally, it said investment flows of foreign-owned companies incorporated in Malaysia will be reclassified based on the source of investment funds rather than ownership, to better reflect domestic investment activity.

The updated investor categories will be reflected in Bursa Malaysia’s data packages from April 6, 2026.

In line with the exchange’s usual practice, it said the upcoming changes were communicated to Bursa Malaysia’s data subscribers.

This initiative is in response to the growing use of nominee structures and reflects the exchange’s ongoing commitment to ensuring that information remains relevant, transparent and reflective of current trading behaviours and market dynamics.
