Gobi Partners, Hsbc Tie Up To Support Innovation Economy In Hong Kong, Asean

KUALA LUMPUR, July 28 (Bernama) -- Gobi Partners, a leading pan-Asian venture capital firm, is collaborating with The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) through its Hong Kong office to deepen their partnership to support innovation economy in Hong Kong and Asean.

Under a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed today, both parties will explore further opportunities to drive business and financial connectivity between the Greater Bay Area in China and Asean and 'TaqwaTech', a new category of Muslim entrepreneurs focusing on using technology to serve the demand of the Islamic economy.

They will also explore sustainable innovation and investment aligned to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals as well as growth and empowerment of diverse entrepreneurs. 

"Today’s MoU further underlines HSBC and Gobi Partners’ commitment in empowering diverse entrepreneurs, regardless of gender and background," the companies said in a joint statement. 

The MoU was signed at a luncheon hosted by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government led by its chief executive John Lee for the Malaysian business community, here.

In a separate statement, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), which organised the Hong Kong delegation visit to Malaysia, said over 30 senior executives from HKSAR’s leading chambers, organisations, enterprises, and conglomerates were part of the delegation.

The visit aims to strengthen ties, expand networks and discuss collaboration riding on new policies in Hong Kong to attract investment and talent, as well as the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the Belt and Road Initiative, and new cooperation agreements such as the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership.

The signing of 11 MoUs including the one between HSBC and Gobi Partners today, signals the shared vision of enhanced cooperation and paves the way for mutually beneficial opportunities across both economic and cultural domains.

The HKTDC is a statutory body established in 1966 to promote, assist and develop Hong Kong's trade.
