Agricultural Expos Boost Modern Farming Awareness In Sarawak

KOTA SAMARAHAN, July 18 (Bernama) -- The organisation of agricultural expos provides small-scale farmers in Sarawak with valuable exposure to modern farming technologies and processing techniques, helping to strengthen the sector.

Sarawak Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development, Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, said digital platforms also play a key role in improving food security and supply networks across the state.

“Through the Sarawak State Farmers Organisation (PPNS), we aim to educate farmers on using digital platforms to market their agricultural and livestock products. Modern technology can also help streamline farming operations,” he told a press conference after launching the PPNS Mini Agriculture Expo today.

He expressed hope that more such expos will be held in the future, not only to promote fresh produce and livestock but also to connect farmers with industry players such as banks and import-export companies.

The three-day expo, held at the PPNS Building from today until Sunday, features 45 exhibitors from various agro-based sectors in Kuching and Samarahan.

Dr Rundi also encouraged landowners, especially those with Native Customary Rights (NCR) land, to collaborate and develop land in clusters to boost productivity and attract investment in downstream agricultural industries.

He added that the state is planning to further develop the pepper and commodity sectors, which have the potential to generate billions in revenue through value-added processing.
