MIDA's rail conference to benefit local companies

27/03/2018 06:51 PM
KUALA LUMPUR, March 27 (Bernama) -- The National Supply Chain Conference on Rail Projects and Career Fair 2018, from April 11-12, 2018, will benefit local companies, particularly small and medium enterprises (SMEs) as they will get to explore opportunities with rail owners and project delivery partners.

The event, themed 'Growing Business ... Creating Jobs', is organised by the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) and would see participation from several key local players - Prasarana Malaysia Bhd, Mass Rapid Transit Corp Sdn Bhd, Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd and MyHSR Corp Sdn Bhd.

MIDA Deputy Chief Executive Officer II, Arham Abd Rahman, said the SMEs would be able to gain exposure and associate with big firms in the vibrant rail industry through various on-going projects in the market.

"For instance, MyHSR, which had just tendered for the project recently, will be conducting a one-on-one business-matching session to give SMEs a chance to participate in their projects.

"If you are a Malaysian company operating in a rail-related or a supporting industry, you would not want to miss it," he told a pre-event media conference here today.

On the contracts which would be offered to the SMEs, Arham said, the companies would only reveal them during the event as chief executive officers of the companies were expected to join the business sessions.

Meanwhile, he said, the event's plenary session would also highlight the opportunities in the supply chain of local supporting industries in the High-Speed Rail, East Coast Rail Line, Mass Rapid Transit and Light Rail Transit projects.

"The event will also include a deep-dive into the national rail industry roadmap and updates on rail project development," he said.

He said there would also be an exhibition on the development of railways in the country by Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd and other rail related industry players.

Arham said the event would also feature a career fair, which was expected to offer 20,000 jobs in 100 participating companies.

"These companies are from manufacturing and services sectors, as well as financial institutions," he said.
