ENTREPRENEUR USES FRESH INGREDIENTS AS SELLING POINT FOR SAUCE PRODUCTS

KUALA LUMPUR, June 15   (Bernama) --  The use of fresh ingredients in  her homemade sauce is the selling point for Johorean entrepreneur Suriyati Yahaya to market her sauce products.

Suriyati , 43, from Felda Sungai Mas, Kota Tinggi, Johor, who started her Deli Taste Food sauce business was willing to forego profit and spend extra on fresh ingredients to meet customers’ satisfaction.

“I use fresh garlic and chillies, not the powdered or frozen ones. We will not compromise on quality as building customer loyalty is important,” she told Bernama today,

Suriyati said she started the business in 2012 with a capital of RM150,000 after taking over the sauce product business from another company..

Assisted by her sister, Zailawait, 46, as the assistant manager, Suriyati put her heart and soul into expanding her small and medium enterprise (SME) until her products made their way into grocery stores and several supermarkets throughout Johor.

She added her company produces various types of sauces such as bean-flavoured sauce, chilli sauce, vegetable, tomato sauce and oyster sauce, priced between RM2.50 and RM17.50.

 The Deli Taste Food business  is not only a livelihood for the two sisters but also provides job opportunities to six workers who are new generation of Felda settlers.

“This is part of my responsibility since becoming an entrepreneur, not just making more money,” she added.

In the meantime, Suriyati said with the opportunity and guidance from Felda recently, Deli Taste Food has started a digital business on the Felda e-mall platform through the Shopee application.

“This platform has become a stepping stone for our company to grow into an OEM (original equipment manufacturer) or manufacturing plant for other private brands. For us, this is a proud achievement and we are also helping others who are venturing into entrepreneurship,” she added.

Although she has only been in the business for 10 years, Suriyati has won several awards including   the Global Farmers' Entrepreneur Award of the Bumi Penawar Unit 2018, and her products received recognition in the Agro-Based Industry Products Competition and Agricultural Products Competition.

"In addition to these awards and recognitions, what is more fulfilling, is to see our products well-received by customers from Singapore and Brunei even though they have yet to be marketed there,” she added.
