LABUAN, March 15 (Bernama) -- A business delegation from China is exploring possible business ventures with Malaysian counterparts in the field of high technology (hi-tech).

On March 13-14, the four-person delegation from the Haining Hi-Tech Industrial Park, Zhejiang Province, China met with several Malaysian high-tech firms, including Neurogine Group, a financial technology (fintech) firm.

The delegation comprised Haining Municipal Standing Committee secretary Ma Minghao, Haining Hi-Tech Industrial Park Administrative Committee vice-president Shen Gang, Investment director Yang Minqing and Investment bureau manager Wang Ling.

“The delegation visited our office in Petaling Jaya to promote the Haining Hi-Tech Industrial Park, and they also met with several Malaysian hi-tech firms to gauge interests and technology suitability for placement at the park.

“After the briefing, we are keen to further explore potential opportunities in the park,” said Neurogine Group chief executive officer Owen Chen Chee Onn in a joint statement to Bernama today.

Neurogine Group operates three licensed entities in Labuan, regulated by the Labuan Financial Services Authority.

The group’s fintech solutions have been adopted for use in Cambodia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand and Indonesia.

Chen said the fintech firm is one of the many Malaysian companies assessing China’s current and future market outlook.

“We will seek assistance from the Malaysia Investment Development Authority and the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) for a possible business exploration in China, as Neurogine has been shortlisted by MDEC to join its Founders Centre of Excellence programme.

“A key aim is to nurture Malaysian unicorns by 2025, encourage local companies to expand beyond the country’s borders and make their mark on the global map,” Chen said.

Meanwhile, Ma said the 9,190-hectare Haining Hi-Tech Industrial Park is strategically located on numerous travel and commercial arteries.

“We are keen to attract hi-tech firms from Malaysia to venture in three clusters; namely, electronic information, medical devices and high-end equipment manufacturing,” he said.

He said the park is currently hosting several notable multinational companies, including Peugeot S.A. from France, Savera Industries Ltd from Spain, Wirtgen GmbH from Germany, Hasta Holding AB from Sweden and JinkoSolar Holding Co Ltd, one of the world’s largest solar module manufacturers.

During the meeting with Neurogine, the parties had also discussed providing global capital access to vertical farmers, regulated money broking facilities and investment banking aspirations.

Also present were Neurogine Group advisory board member Dr Jeffrey Sng Chong Khian and group vice-president Chooi Yew Tzen.
