KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 20 (Bernama) -- The Federal Territory Islamic Religious Department (JAWI) in collaboration with various agencies is committed to carrying out the ‘dakwah’ (missionary) agenda to the Muslim community, particularly in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan through welfare programmes and those aim at enhancing the understanding of Islam.
JAWI in a statement today said that emphasis was placed on efforts to educate the community, including Persons with Disabilities (PwD), through the ‘dakwah bil lisan’ and ‘dakwah bil hal’ methodology.
The special programmes implemented for that group since 2000 include the ‘fardu ain’ knowledge, basic guidance in reading the Quran and strengthening family institutions towards a full appreciation of Islam.
"The religious programmes implemented for PwD participants throughout 2023 are 18 series of Quran in Braille Guidance Classes (Level 1, Level 2 and Advanced level); as well as 22 series of Fardu Ain Guidance Classes and Quran in Braille (Mualaf) for visually impaired people.
"Others are 25 series of Quran and Fardu Ain Guidance Classes for the hearing impaired, 24 series of Quran and Fardu Ain Guidance Classes for the hearing impaired (Mualaf); one series of Ziarah Mahabah and two series of Islamic Understanding Programmes for visually and hearing impaired people (Ihya' Ramadan and Ma'al Hijrah)," according to the statement.
JAWI said a total of 2,775 participants have attended the programmes so far this year, with a total allocation of RM187,490.
In order to make the spiritual guidance programmes for the PwD successful, JAWI has collaborated with the Malaysian Islamic Association for the Visually Impaired (PERTIS), Malaysian Association for the Blind (MAB), Malaysian Federation of the Deaf (MFD), Malaysia Deaf Muslim Association (PRISMA) and the Kuala Lumpur Society of the Deaf (KLSD).
"JAWI will make the Islamic dakwah and understanding programmes for the PwD as one of its priorities in line with the Religious Affairs Transformation Plan Towards Malaysia MADANI (Al-Falah) which prioritises the principle of courtesy," the statement read.
