KUALA LUMPUR, April 8 (Bernama) -- The Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii) is proactively addressing the escalating complexity of electric vehicle (EV) systems through a series of initiatives.

Chief executive officer Azrul Reza Aziz said the primary goal is to fortify technicians' proficiency and elevate service standards by researching and envisioning the future of the repair segment or aftermarket sector within the EV industry.

"MARii foresees the future of the repair segment within the EV industry in Malaysia evolving to meet the increasing complexity of EV systems. To prepare for anticipated changes and advancements, MARii has initiated various strategic measures," he told Bernama.

Azrul Reza elaborated on the multifaceted nature of the initiatives, encompassing training, skill development and collaboration with industry stakeholders like repair shops, EV manufacturers, remanufacturing centres, authorised automotive treatment facilities, academia, and government agencies.

"MARii also plays a pivotal role in the development of modules and standards tailored to EVs, working closely with entities like the Malaysia Standards and National Occupational Skills Standards, as well as governmental bodies such as the Department of Standards Malaysia and Department of Skills Development," he said.

Azrul Reza said that through knowledge-sharing activities and the development of industry standards, MARii fosters an environment conducive to innovation and excellence in the repair segment of the EV industry.

He said the institute also promotes the adoption of EVs through specialised training programmes such as the Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Technology Training (HEV Tech).

The programme equips EV repair technicians with the essential knowledge and skills required for the effective diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of vehicles.

He said the programme covers a spectrum of EV systems, ensuring comprehensive proficiency with regard to battery management, electric drivetrain components, charging systems and safety protocols.

“Through hands-on training sessions and theoretical coursework, technicians gain practical experience and theoretical understanding, enabling them to provide high-quality repair services for EVs," he said.

Azrul Reza also emphasised MARii's dedication to spearheading strategic research projects that centred on the broader EV ecosystem and sustainable battery management.

"MARii aims to establish robust waste disposal protocols, mitigate greenhouse gas emissions, and advocate for a 'closed-loop' approach within the automotive sector," he added.
