KLUANG, Sept 27 (Bernama) -- The Election Commission (EC) reminded voters in the Mahkota state assembly by-election not to wear clothing, caps, face masks, or bring items displaying party or candidate logos when casting their votes tomorrow.

EC secretary Datuk Ikmalrudin Ishak stated that failure to comply with these regulations could result in voters being barred from entering the polling stations.

“The EC expects all parties to adhere to the laws, regulations, and election ethics to ensure a smooth electoral process and to maintain public order. Any violations may result in action being taken,” he said in a statement today.

The reminder also applies to candidates and election officials as well as campaign materials that indicate support for or lean toward any political ideology.

Ikmalrudin noted that voters are not allowed to use mobile phones in the polling stations and must place their phones in designated areas after receiving their ballot papers, retrieving them only after casting their votes.

He stated that the "10 Steps of Voting" poster provides a clear reference for the entire voting process, and reminded voters to always maintain the confidentiality of their votes.

Ikmalrudin advised voters to turn out according to the recommended voting times indicated in the MySPR Semak application and not wait until the last minute.

“Voters are also reminded to bring their identification cards and any voting information, and to present them to the first polling clerk to facilitate verification,” he said.

Voters can check their voting information, such as polling station details, voting channels, and serial numbers, on the verification portal at https://mysprsemak.spr.gov.my, or by contacting the Election Commission hotline at 03-8892 7018/7218/7124, or via the MySPR Semak application.

“Voters are reminded not to surrender their identification cards to anyone other than election officials. Employers are also urged to allow a reasonable time out for registered voters to cast their votes,” he added.

The Mahkota by-election features a straight contest between Barisan Nasional candidate Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah and Perikatan Nasional candidate Mohamad Haizan Jaafar.
