UNRWA Says Survival Conditions Are Dwindling For 75,000 Gazans

NEW YORK, Nov 29 (Bernama-WAFA) -- The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said that the survival conditions are dwindling for about 65,000 to 75,000 people who are estimated to still be in the northern Gaza Strip, Palestine News and Info Agency (WAFA) reported.

UNRWA explained in a post on X on Thursday that estimates indicate that between 65,000 and 75,000 people are still in the besieged northern Gaza Strip, and for more than 50 days they have been facing dwindling survival conditions.

It pointed out that the areas of Jabalia, Beit Lahia and Beit Hanoun have been largely prevented from receiving humanitarian assistance for weeks amid the ongoing violent hostilities.

UNRWA pointed out that the past three days have seen heavy rainfall and a significant drop in temperatures, while thousands of families who have been displaced from the besieged areas are now facing the cold and rain of winter without blankets, mattresses or shelters to protect them from the water.

“From October 6 to November 25, 2024, the United Nations made 91 repeated attempts to reach these three areas to provide life-saving humanitarian assistance, but 82 of these attempts were categorically rejected, while 9 of them were obstructed,” the organisation added.
