Situation In Flood-Hit States Continues To Improve

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 6 (Bernama) -- The situation in flood-hit Terengganu, Perak, Kelantan, Kedah, Melaka, Johor, and Pahang has continued to improve.

In TERENGGANU, only five people from one family still remained at a relief centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Rhu Sepuluh, Setiu as at 4 pm, compared to 1,052 people this morning.

The State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) Secretariat said that all eight relief centres in Kuala Nerus were closed at noon after 976 people from 247 families were allowed to return to their homes.

In PERAK, one centre each in the districts of Kinta and Perak Tengah was closed today, leaving only 129 people from 43 families housed at three relief centres as at 4 pm.

In MELAKA, the number of flood evacuees dropped slightly to 134 from 34 families this afternoon from 148 from 37 families this morning.

The State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat said in a statement that 103 people from 25 families were being accommodated at SK Parit Penghulu and 31 people from nine families at SK Seri Mendapat.

In KEDAH, the number of evacuees further dropped to 2,861 from 850 families as at 4 pm, down from 3,676 from 1,088 families this morning.

State Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) deputy director Major (PA) Muhammad Suhaimi Mohd Zain said all victims from the two districts were being housed at 17 relief centres.

“Kota Setar has the highest number of evacuees at 2,479 from 740 families at 14 centres, while Kubang Pasu has 382 people from 110 families at three centres. Three centres in Pokok Sena, opened on Nov 28, were closed yesterday and today,” he said in a statement.

In KELANTAN, the number of evacuees dropped to 12,736 from 3,963 families from 23,366 this morning.

According to the Social Welfare Department's (JKM) Infobencana portal, the highest number of evacuees was in Tumpat at 8,514 from 2,608 families, followed by Pasir Mas at 4,200 from 1,348 families, while in Jeli, the figure remained unchanged at 19 from four families.

In JOHOR, the number of flood evacuees dropped to 811 from 975 this morning.

State Disaster Management Committee chairman Tan Sri Dr Azmi Rohani said one relief centre was opened at SK Seri Comel in Batu Pahat at 11 am, housing 30 people.

He added that the 232 families from three districts were being housed at 17 relief centres. Segamat had  605 people from 174 families at 14 centres, while 176 people from 48 families were at two centres in Tangkak.

Meanwhile, in PAHANG, the number of flood evacuees remained at 15 from five families, housed at a relief centre in Maran.

According to publicinfobanjir.water.gov.my, only Sungai Pahang in Lubuk Paku, Maran, has surpassed the warning level at 18.37 metres.
