MELAKA, Dec 11 (Bernama) -- Melaka received 12.32 million tourists from January to October in conjunction with the 2024 Visit Melaka Year (TMM2024).
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said this comprised 9.43 million domestic tourists and 2.98 million international tourists.
"Representing the Melaka state government, I record my highest gratitude and appreciation to all tourists and visitors for being a part of the 12,325,264 million people who visited Melaka from January to October, in conjunction with TMM2024.
"I am confident and believe that Melaka is on the right track to attract more tourists till the end of this year, thus signalling a recovery in the tourism sector. This is the time for us to bring "the world to the state of Melaka!" he said on his official Facebook page.
Previously, Ab Rauf was reported to have said that the state government was planning over 70 programmes and large-scale celebrations to enliven the TMM2024 celebrations.
These are also part of Melaka’s preparations to host the World Tourism Day (WTD) and World Tourism Conference (WTC) to be held in the state in September next year.
Prior to this, the tourism sector especially in Melaka had been badly affected following the COVID-19 pandemic that hit globally since 2020.
