ALOR SETAR, June 10 (Bernama) -- The MADANI Community has been urged to optimise the use of social media as a platform to disseminate accurate information on various issues.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said this is one of the initiatives to empower the MADANI Community in combating fake news and ensuring the efficient delivery of accurate information at the grassroots level.

“We will ask the Information Department to compile information and channel it to them so it can be shared within their respective communities (via social media),” he said after officiating at the Northern Zone A session of Akademi Asas Penerangan (ASAS) here today.

He said the implementation of ASAS for all MADANI Community members would also be improved with additional, more detailed modules to produce more effective results in the future.

According to him, ASAS helps guide the MADANI Community to present arguments more clearly, concisely and accurately, ensuring that the information shared is well understood by the public.

“For any issue that arises, the delivery of information usually needs to be brief, formatted appropriately, and tailored to the specific community, so that it is more effective,” he said.

Earlier, at the event organised by the Information Department (JaPen), Fahmi engaged with nearly 90 MADANI Community members from Kedah and Perlis.

Meanwhile, JaPen said in a statement that the programme is a strategic initiative to strengthen the government’s communication network at the grassroots level. It also aims to empower communities to act as credible communication agents, in line with the values outlined in the Malaysia MADANI framework.

According to JaPen, this is the third ASAS session held in 2025 and the first in the Northern Zone. To date, the programme has trained 420 participants nationwide.

“As a result of their participation, 335 short videos explaining various current issues have been uploaded by the participants on various social media platforms, as part of efforts to widen the reach of accurate information to the public,” the statement added.

The ASAS module is based on a Training of Trainers approach, aimed at ensuring MADANI Community members can serve as Key Opinion Leaders within their respective communities.
