JERANTUT, Sept 13 (Bernama) -- The 63rd PAS Dewan Ulama Annual Muktamar focused on efforts to strengthen the unity of the ummah by outlining three main pillars in line with the theme of this year’s muktamar, 'Unity is the Foundation of Strength', according to PAS Dewan Ulama chief Datuk Ahmad Yahya.
He said the first focus is 'Political Unity Drives Transformation of the Ummah', which involves uniting the political stance of Muslims under one banner after a long period of division.
The second focus is 'Unity Based on Intellectualism and Knowledge', where PAS Dewan Ulama takes the lead in promoting Islamic intellectual discourse to society.
"The third focus is 'Unity in Upholding Religious Educational Institutions'. The Dewan Ulama must elevate the status of religious education institutions in their respective areas, nurture religious studies and attract as many people as possible to engage in religious education," he said.
He said this while delivering the keynote address at the Dewan Ulama’s muktamar held at the Imam Syafie Complex in Kampung Temin here today, which was also attended by PAS Spiritual Leader Datuk Hashim Jasin.
Efforts to strengthen the unity of the ummah also featured prominently in the debates of several PAS Dewan Ulama members. Among them, Pahang delegate Roslan Md Esa called on Muslims to set aside disagreements and extreme attitudes that could lead to slander.
Selangor delegate Mohd Zubir Embong said the Dewan Ulama must intensify efforts to enhance unity among the ummah in facing various challenges, such as the mental colonisation by ideologies of secularism and liberalism.
"In the end, the ulama must go to the ground to explain to the people; we must work hard to ensure the position of Islam is secure," he said.
The 70th PAS Central Annual Muktamar began last Wednesday, with the highlights scheduled for tomorrow and Sunday at the Al-Makmur Complex, Kerdau, Temerloh.
