KUALA NERUS, April 7 -- Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) has its own strength as it is a comprehensive institution of higher learning  with a list of faculties, said Sultan of Terengganu Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin.

He also expressed pride as the university would soon be equipped with its own hospital that will provide facilities for various treatment and prevention of diseases for the people in the state.

"The experts in the field of medicine will soon be able to create new innovations to curb dangerous diseases that are threats to human health," he said in his speech in conjunction with the university’s 40th anniversary celebration at Dewan Al -Muktafi Billah Shah, UniSZA, here today.

Also present were Terengganu Sultanah, Sultanah Nur Zahirah who is the chancellor of UniSZA, the royal couple’s children Yang Dipertuan Muda Terengganu, Tengku Muhammad Ismail, Tengku Setia Mahkota Raja Tengku Muhammad Mua'az; Tengku Puteri Utama Raja Tengku Nadhirah Zahrah and Tengku Puteri Daulath Raja Tengku Fatimatuz Zahra.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, his wife Toh Puan Seri Tuan Faizah Tuan Ab Rahman and UniSZA vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Hassan Basri Awang Mat Dahan were also in attendance.

Sultan Mizan also commended the university for its move to collaborate with the National Heart Institute (IJN) through a memorandum of understanding signed on March 31, as this would enable IJN to share technology and expertise with UniSZA, as well as conduct research in the field of cardiovascular.

He said the move would benefit the people of Terengganu, Kelantan and Pahang who were in need of services from IJN.

Meanwhile the Ruler hoped that the concept of knowledge integration as mastered by Islamic scholars in the past, would be intensified in the state.

He said as Terengganu has various types of educational institutions, the important agenda that needs to be addressed is how each institution would be able to play its optimal role.

Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin Teaching Hospital (HPUniSZA) which is located in the Gong Badak Campus with an area of 30 acres is now 85 per cent complete.

Constructed by the Public Works Department at a cost of RM345 million, the hospital is expected to be handed over to UniSZA on August 31.
