KUALA TERENGGANU, April 7 -- The zakat fitrah (personal tithe) rate in Terengganu this year is not less than RM7 per person.
Terengganu Islamic Affairs and Malay Customs Council (MAIDAM) president Datuk Osman Muda said this year, the zakat fitrah payments can only be made with cash only.
“Muslims in the state can pay it at any MAIDAM zakat payment counter from 8.30 am to 4 pm on normal working days.
"From April 25 to May 12, MAIDAM zakat payment counters including at the Urban Transformation Centres (UTC) and zakat drive-thrus will be open seven days a week from 8.30 am to 4 pm. UTC zakat counters will open until 9.30 pm except on Fridays and Saturdays," he said in a statement today.
This year, MAIDAM has appointed a total of 1,090 amil who will collect fitrah and property tithes at every mosque and surau throughout Terengganu.
