KANGAR, June 10  -- The future is bright for 12-year-old footballer  Uzzair Zayyan Naimulddin, who has just received a scholarship at the International School Phuket (BISP), Thailand.

The scholarship is worth RM120,000 a year and he will be absorbed under the High-Performance Team (HPT) programme managed by Cruzeiro Football Academy Brazil.

The Perlis Football Association (PFA) said in a statement today that Uzzair Zayyan, an Akademi Tunas Kangar trainee under the National Football Development Programme (NFDP) since 2016 was among the teenage football players in Malaysia to receive a place at the academy.

“Uzzair Zayyan will undergo full training under the Brazilian programme in August along with other players the world over,” the statement read.

The Sekolah Kebangsaan Seri Tunjong, Beseri student was also a member of the KSMR Kangar Junior (Under 9) football club and Kangar 09 Dragons (Under 10-12) football club under the guidance of coach Norhisham Jaafar, and has participated in many football championships throughout the country.

PFA said in 2020, Uzzair Zayyan was chosen to join the international football camp in Holland with Ajax Amsterdam under a programme sponsored by TH Global Football Camp but the camp was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The statement also said Uzzair Zayyan, who plays as a midfielder, said Barcelona footballer Xavi Hernandez was his football idol as he was the best midfield strategist, capable of making pinpoint decisions under pressure.

Uzzair Zayyan’s decision to accept the offer seems to be the right move for the young promising footballer in his journey to become a world-class professional football player and hopefully, a national football star.
