Body of Filipino who jumped off ferry during repatriation found

SANDAKAN, March 17 (Bernama) -- The body of a Filipino man who jumped off a ferry last Wednesday (March 15) while being repatriated to the Philippines was found drowned.

According to a Sabah Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) statement, the victim was identified as Razmel Abdul Rahim, 31.

His body was found by Marine Police at 8.39 am today.

"The body of the victim was found at the second Sandakan Port jetty some 600 metres from the location where the victim jumped. His body has been handed over to the police for further action,” said the statement.

Yesterday, JBPM received an emergency call at about 10 am about a ferry passenger who suddenly jumped through a window from the fourth floor of the ferry at 6.45 pm on Wednesday.

The ferry manager, who witnessed the incident contacted the Sandakan district police headquarters at 8 pm on Wednesday and a team from the Fire and Rescue Department was immediately sent to the scene to begin a search and rescue operation.
