OVER 300 MELAKA JKM PERSONNEL ON STANDBY FOR FLOODS

18/04/2024 09:31 AM

MELAKA, April 18 (Bernama) -- Despite the ongoing Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations, the Melaka Social Welfare Department (JKM) has placed more than 300 personnel on standby for possible floods.

State Women, Family and Community Development Committee chairman Datuk Kalsom Nordin said JKM personnel will be stationed at relief centres to ensure the welfare and comfort of flood evacuees.

“The Melaka JKM personnel will be among the first to help flood victims, even if they are still in the Hari Raya mood, and will provide the best service in any situation.

“Among the services provided by JKM to flood victims are counselling sessions to help ease the emotional burden of those whose properties are affected and round-the-clock care at relief centres,” she told reporters after the Pengkalan Batu state constituency Aidilfitri open house here last night.

Meanwhile, Kalsom urged the Village Development and Safety Committee (JPKK) in flood-affected areas to play a proactive role to ensure flood victims receive assistance provided by the state government, such as food kits and financial aid.

At least 57 houses in Melaka Tengah and Alor Gajah were affected by flash floods following more than two-hour rain on Sunday, forcing the evacuation of the affected residents to several relief centres.
