South Asian Countries Greet Malaysia On National Day

NEW DELHI, Aug 31 (Bernama) -- South Asian countries on Saturday greeted Malaysia on its National Day.

Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu felicitated His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on the occasion.

Muizzu in separate letters to the King and prime minister noted that the Maldives-Malaysia partnership is based on mutual respect, shared principles, and enduring people-to-people ties.

The president "expressed confidence that the long-standing partnership between the two countries will continue to strengthen for the benefit of both countries," according to a statement from his office.

Maldives Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer greeted his Malaysia counterpart Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan on the occasion, saying he looked forward "to further strengthening the close and friendly relations between our two countries."

Sri Lanka and Pakistan also greeted Malaysia.

"On the occasion of the National Day of Malaysia, we extend our heartiest felicitations to its people and government," Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a social media post.

In messages from other regions, Türkiye and Iran also warmly greeted Malaysia on the occasion.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran extends its sincere congratulations to the brotherly, friendly nation and Government of Malaysia on their Independence Day. Strengthening all-round relations is on the mutual agenda of the two nations," the Iranian Foreign Ministry said.

"Congratulations to brotherly and friendly Malaysia on its Independence Day!" said the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Meanwhile, India’s Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said in his message, congratulating his Malaysian counterpart on the 67th Independence Day: "Look forward to advancing our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership."
