TOKYO, Sept 12 (Bernama-Kyodo) -- Typhoon Bebinca is expected to approach Japan's southern island of Okinawa and the southwestern island region of Amami over the weekend, with the weather agency on Thursday warning of landslides and flooding, Kyodo News Agency reported.

The season's 13th typhoon may bring violent winds and rough seas to some areas, the Japan Meteorological Agency said, urging vigilance against storms, high tides and rising river levels.

The agency has also called on people to avoid non-essential outings and to stay away from windows when indoors, as violent winds could cause utility poles and parts of buildings to collapse.

As of 6 pm, the typhoon was moving north-northwest at around 25 kilometres per hour, east of the Philippines, with winds of up to 126 kph and an atmospheric pressure at 990 hectopascals at its centre, according to the agency.
