KUALA BERANG, Nov 29 (Bernama) -- “I heard the victims’ cries for help but was unable to act in time,” said Danial Arabi, a neighbour of the landslide victims in Kampung Bukit Apit, Ajil, today.

Danial, 36, shared that he was at home around 4.30 pm when he suddenly heard a loud bang.

“It was raining heavily, and the sound of the crash was incredibly loud. I immediately went outside to find out what had happened.

“I saw three houses next door, one of which was the victims’ home, and the other two, still under construction, had been crushed by the landslide,” he said when met here today.

Danial said he immediately rushed to the victims’ house and discovered a girl lying with her lower body pinned by the wall.

“I heard a scream for help, but I couldn’t see where it was coming from, except for the girl who was trapped under the rubble.

“I immediately called the police and the fire department for assistance,” he said.

The Terengganu Fire and Rescue Department  said that they received a call about the landslide at 4.59 pm, after which 16 firefighters rushed to the scene.

The department’s operations centre has deployed the Special Tactical Operation and Rescue Team (STORM) unit to the site, where rescue operations are currently underway.
