KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 27 (Bernama) -- The Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) will host the second international edition of the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) in Shanghai, China.

In a statement today, MATRADE said MIHAS@Shanghai is scheduled to take place from Nov 5-10 and will be organised in conjunction with the China International Import Expo (CIIE) 2025.

“This prestigious event provides a key platform for Malaysian businesses to showcase their products and expand their market presence in China, thereby enhancing their global competitiveness,” it said.

MATRADE further said that in conjunction with this participation, it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the China International Import Expo Bureau (CIIE Bureau) to strengthen trade relations between Malaysia and China.

“The signing took place at the 8th CIIE Promo Conference in Kuala Lumpur recently, symbolising both parties’ commitment to strengthening bilateral trade ties and improving market access for Malaysian exporters,” the agency said.

The MoU was signed between MATRADE deputy chief executive officer Abu Bakar Yusof and CIIE exhibition department general manager Fang Hui.

The ceremony was witnessed by the Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia Ouyang Yujing, MATRADE chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz, and CIIE executive director general Wu Zhengping.

MATRADE chairman Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican said the partnership would allow both parties to leverage their combined strengths strategically, fostering mutual growth and creating new opportunities for success.

“Through international events, Malaysian companies will gain a direct pathway to expand their market reach into China and its surrounding regions.

“This collaboration presents immense potential to create lasting value, enhance global visibility and further strengthen networks that will position both MATRADE and CIIE for future growth in the global marketplace,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mohd Mustafa said the collaboration with CIIE offers strong potential in event promotion, allowing both parties to maximise their strengths and gain significant benefits from international events.

“These events offer a unique platform for global exposure, creating opportunities for Malaysian companies to forge valuable partnerships, increase brand visibility and expand their markets into China and surrounding areas,” he said.

The MIHAS@Dubai exhibition was held at the Dubai World Trade Centre from Nov 18 to 20, 2024.

MATRADE has called on Malaysian businesses to take advantage of MIHAS@Shanghai, with registrations now open.
