KUCHING, June 10 (Bernama) -- Sarawak is set to highlight its sustainable energy agenda on the international stage at the 2025 International Photovoltaic (PV) Power Generation and Smart Energy Exhibition and Conference in Shanghai, China.

The conference is being held from June 10 to 13 at Shanghai’s National Exhibition and Convention Centre (NECC), which is recognised as the world's largest and most influential trade exhibition and conference for solar PV and smart energy.

“Deputy Minister for Utility (Sarawak Energy Bhd and Petroleum Sarawak Bhd - PETROS), Datuk Ibrahim Baki, who is leading the Sarawak government delegation on a three-day official working visit to China, is scheduled to speak at the conference today,” the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) said in a statement today.

Ibrahim will be representing Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at the event, which features over 3,000 exhibitors from 95 countries, offering a platform to present and discuss policy updates, market trends, and to strengthen networking among industry players and policy stakeholders.

“It gathers leading experts, academics, researchers, entrepreneurs and representatives from China’s national institutions involved in solar PV and renewable energy, alongside senior executives from solar industry associations in Europe, Asia and the Americas,” it said.

During the event, the Sarawak government, through the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication (MUT), will sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with China Three Gorges International Ltd (CGTI) and Shanghai Electric Power T&D Group Co. Ltd.

The MOU aims to facilitate various studies and collaborations to explore the potential development of a floating solar farm with a capacity of up to 1,000 megawatts (MW) at the Bakun Hydroelectric Plant (HEP) catchment area.

Following the conference, the Sarawak delegation will visit the Shanghai Electric headquarters located in Minhang District, while in the evening, they will be joined by the State Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, for a courtesy call on the Mayor of Shanghai, Gong Zheng.

On Wednesday, they are scheduled to visit the Fudan University campus, one of China’s leading research institutions, to explore cutting-edge technologies, particularly in the field of artificial intelligence (AI), and to identify potential strategic collaboration opportunities.
