Tiger ‘Yob Kinding’ Captured In Chemor

SUNGAI SIPUT, Jan 11 (Bernama) -- A male tiger known as ‘Yob Kinding’ was captured after it entered a trap set at a durian orchard near Bukit Kinding, Chemor, today.

Perak Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) director Yusoff Shariff said the predator, weighing about 70 kilogrammes, was found inside the trap by six Perhilitan personnel who were conducting patrols in the area at about 1 pm.

“Our department received a report from the Tanjung Rambutan police station at about 8 pm last night after the police were alerted by residents of Bukit Kinding who discovered tiger footprints and heard roaring sounds at a privately owned durian orchard.

“Based on the information received, our team carried out patrols and found that a male tiger had entered a trap that had earlier been laid in the area,” he told Bernama when met at the Sungai Siput district Perhilitan office here today.

Yusoff said an examination conducted found the mammal to be in good health, with no injuries detected.

He said the tiger will be sent to the National Wildlife Rescue Centre (NWRC) in Sungkai in the near future for further observation and follow-up treatment.

Meanwhile, he dismissed claims that the tiger was the same animal that had been roaming and preying on livestock around Bukit Bangkong since Dec 5.

“I believe the tiger that was captured is the offspring of the one previously sighted in Bukit Bangkong. We believe the tiger roaming Bukit Bangkong is the mother,” he said.

Yusoff also advised residents in the Bukit Bangkong area to remain vigilant and to avoid carrying out activities in the recreational areas there.

On Dec 8, residents of Bukit Bangkong were alarmed by reports of wild animal attacks believed to involve a tiger, which resulted in two heads of cattle being killed and five others going missing on Dec 5.

Following complaints from residents, Perhilitan Perak installed two traps and two cameras in the Bukit Kinding, Chemor and Bukit Bangkong areas.
