2023 Sea Games cyclist selection based on performance at 2022 National Road Championship - MNCF

KUALA LUMPUR, June 23 (Bernama) -- The selection of cyclists to the 2023 South East Asian Games in Cambodia will be based on their performance at the 2022 National Road Championship, which will take place at Dataran Amanjaya in Manong, Perak, this Saturday.

Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF) president Datuk Abu Samah Abd Wahab said he would ask national head coach Datuk Ng Joo Ngan to monitor the performance of cyclists throughout the championship for selection purposes.

He added that the 165.2 kilometre (km) race would be a contest between the two top teams in the country, Terengganu Cycling Team (TSG) and Sapura Cycling Team (TSC).

"From what I can see, the competition to don the national team jersey will be between the riders from TSG or Sapura.

If we look at the recent form, it's tough for state cyclists to challenge riders attached to TSG or Sapura," he said in a statement.

He also added that the championship had reached a historic milestone as there would be over 500 cyclists participating in the championship for the very first time.

He also stated the federation’s readiness to allow Singaporean cycles to participate in the championship like the National Track Championship at the Nilai National Velodrome in Negeri Sembilan last month.
